THE ADVENTURES OF GERALD AND TED: NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
PILOT: ‘Another Typical Day’
Written by Emanuel Adelekun
TYPE: 30 minute comedy sitcom
PREMISE
Gerald and Ted are two members (the only two) of a so-called 'Elite' Neighbourhood Watch Group, who have taken it upon themselves to investigate any shady goings-on around the north London council estate on which they live on. No child is too small, no pensioner too old, no puppy too cute- if you step out of line on Gerald and Ted’s watch you better be ready to suffer the consequences.
SYNOPSIS
It’s a typical day on Gerald and Ted’s north London council estate as the two are in a full on foot chase after Old man Winston. Winston has once again forgotten to take his medication and has been running around flashing residents of the estate as his alter ego, ‘Barry the Flasher.’ Ted manages to catch the fast old man, but gets a knee to the groin in his effort to wrestle him to the ground and we FLASHBACK to the beginning of the day.
Ted and Gerald rescue Old man Winston’s stuffed dog from the estates biggest thief, 14-year old Billy Horn, but when they go to return him they find Old man Winston’s flat empty, with his fur coat gone and his bottle of pills still with the child safety cap firmly on. All this can only means one thing, ‘Barry’ is back.
They go to Winston’s friends, The Kids, for help: a group of mischievous old people. But they’re too busy planning to fix a bingo game. Distractions also keep coming from everywhere; someone has kidnapped little eight-year old Susie’s imagery friend, Jenny, and is holding her for random, Ted is on the look out for one-eyed Ron, who he believes never gave back his ‘Training Day’ DVD. Plus, Gerald has lost his favourite clicker pen, and just can’t get use to having to take the cap of his new one every time he wants to write something.
The screams of Barry’s victims can be heard all over the state- Gerald and Ted must act fast.
They lure Winston out using his stuffed dog as bait but Ted gets distracted when he sees Ron, and Winston gets away. Back to the chase and Ted catching a knee to the groin, Winston is about to get away when Susie turns up. The sight of Susie causes Winston to snap out of his Barry delusion and unaware of anything he has done that day, he accepts his pills from her.
With Old man Winston back to his old self, Ted and Gerald help Susie find her imagery friend, Jenny. Which is easy, as once again they find her with Billy ‘takes everything’ Horn, who also sells Gerald a new clicker pen while they’re in his room.
After reuniting Susie and Jenny, and Gerald getting a new pen, Gerald and Ted run into a police officer looking for a group of old people who cheated and ran off with the prize money from a bingo game. Just another typical day for Gerald and Ted.
